View Ref-FileStart shell

You can start a command shell with this menu item. The command shell to be
started is specified in the /etc/passwd file. TosWin2 uses the current
user's home directory and login shell from this file. To determine the
current user, TosWin2 first reads the LOGNAME variable. If it is not set,
the effective user ID is used.

Depending whether the menu switch Always Login shell is on or off, either
all or only the first shell are started as a login shell. The login shell
records user actions in the /etc/utmp and /var/adm/wtmp files and the
shell also reads additional files (bash: ~/.bash_login, tcsh: ~/.login).

For each running shell, the environment variables HOME and SHELL are
assigned the corresponding values from /etc/passwd.

The shell function is used for instance by the GEMinit package from Ulrich
Kaiser.
