Setup: Setting up MagiC Thing

MagiC (or MagX) allows one to use another desktop as a replacement for
MagXDesk. To use Thing, add the following entry to MagiC's configuration
file MAGX.INF:

  #_SHL C:\THING\THING.APP

Replace 'C:\THING\' with your own folder path, if different. When
re-booting the system, Thing starts automatically as a shell in place of
MagXDesk.

If you've already used EASE or Gemini, you'll have to delete the existing '#_SHL' line (e.g. '#_SHL C:\EASE\EASE.PRG')! Only one line with '#_SHL' is allowed! To use Thing as an AV-server and font selector you also have to set the environmental variables AVSERVER and FONTSELECT. To do this, add the following entries to the file MAGX.INF: #_ENV AVSERVER=THING #_ENV FONTSELECT=THING In addition, you can specify the filename of ST-Guide by setting the environmental variable STGUIDE. This makes it possible to start ST-Guide as an external program, so it does not have to be installed as a desk accessory. To do this, add the following entry to MAGX.INF: #_ENV STGUIDE=D:\TOOLS\ST-GUIDE\ST-GUIDE.PRG Replace 'D:\TOOLS\ST-GUIDE\ST-GUIDE.PRG' with your own installation path to ST-Guide. All changes in MAGX.INF must be made before the '#_CTR' line! This is because '#_CTR' marks the start of the MagXDesk configuration. From MagiC v5.02 onwards note that the additional entries should be placed in the section of the file starting with '#[aes]'.
