The contents of the current directory or group window is displayed as text: 



The typeface and size is selected via the 'Appearance...' option in the 
'Display' menu.


      If you use the text display most of the time, you can greatly 
      speed up reading in of directories by switching on 'Suppress
      mini-icons in text mode' in page 'Window 1' of the 'Configuration' 
      dialog. In that case Thing does not have to evaluate the icon 
      allocations, which are not needed in the text mode as a rule.
      However, in that case any colour allocations for given entries 
      will also be ignored.
