View Ref-FileHelpSetup: System requirements Thing
Thing can be used with TOS (1.04 or later), MagiC (2.00 or later),
MultiTOS, N.AES and Geneva (though complete interoperability is only
possible from Geneva 6 onwards). Alternative file systems for use with
MiNT (MinixFS etc.) or MagiC!Mac are also supported. Using Thing with
TOS 1.02 or TOS 1.00 is not possible -- sorry! Changes for such old
version of TOS would be too complex and could not be done in a 'clean'
way, as TOS 1.04 and later contains some very important system functions
that are missing in TOS 1.02 and TOS 1.00!
If you want to use the Console window of Thing, you have to install
TOS2GEM, programmed by Thomas Binder, which is included in this archive.
Thing supports any resolution and colour-depth. However a minimum
resolution of 640x200 (ST medium, 80x25 character display) is recommended,
as otherwise some dialogs and menus may not be completely visible.
Thing currently requires around 700Kb memory so is only really usable on
machines with 1 - 2Mb memory or more. Memory can be conserved by using
mono icons instead of colour -- details in the following pages.
Thing supports every GDOS version and enhancement utilities including
Let'em Fly, Alice, WINX and Freedom. Context sensitive help in Thing is
naturally also provided, using ST-Guide programmed by Holger Weets.
