View Ref-FileSingle-TOSSingle-TOS & MiNTMagiC (Mag!X)Setup: Setting up MultiTOS/N.AES Thing
To use Thing as an alternative desktop for MultiTOS/N.AES you have to
add the following entry in GEM.CNF/N_AES.CNF (not MINT.CNF!):
shell C:\THING\THING.APP
Replace 'C:\THING\' with your own folder path, if different, and be sure
to delete any other 'shell' entries!
When re-booting the system, Thing starts automatically. To use Thing as
an AV-server and font selector you still have to set the environmental
variables AVSERVER and FONTSELECT. To do this, add the following entries
to the file MINT.CNF (not GEM.CNF/N_AES.CNF!):
setenv AVSERVER THING
setenv FONTSELECT THING
When using MiNT-OS or KGMD, Thing may not save its configuration
files in its own start directory, or be able to find them, because
the environmental variable HOME is set. To avoid this, you can set
THINGDIR to override HOME. You can do this by adding the following
entry to MINT.CNF:
setenv THINGDIR c:\thing
Replace 'c:\thing' with your own folder path, if different. This
will also usually correct matters if Thing started under MultiTOS
cannot find the icon data despite correct installation. Thing will
then only access the specified directory, irrespective of HOME or
other 'offenders' ;-)
In addition, you can specify the filename of ST-Guide by setting the
environmental variable STGUIDE. This makes it possible to use ST-Guide
as an external program, so it does not have to be installed as a desk
accessory. To do this, add the following entry to MINT.CNF (not to
GEM.CNF/N_AES.CNF!):
setenv STGUIDE d:\tools\st-guide\st-guide.prg
Replace 'd:\tools\st-guide\st-guide.prg' with your own installation path
for ST-Guide.
